• Ron Tweedie, a Thunder Bay based geologist, was frustrated with the quality of rock hammers and began manufacturing his own from old truck leaf springs and stuff found on the welding shop floor. These hammers of his were so successful that other geologists wanted them too, and a small business was born. The hammers are now made from tempered 4135 chrome moly steel. The handles are turned on a lathe in Canada from American hickory. Wood absorbs shock far better than the techie options such as fiberglass or rubber covered steel and is favored for handles.
